Deborah LaceyBorn in Shreveport, Louisiana- I am the 10th child in a family of twelve children, my parents had 6 boys & 6 girls together. My mother has always been a homemaker who has raised all of us and continues to help raise over 40 grand & great-grand children. My father(now deceased) was a philosopher, he loved to challenge intellectual conversation. His profession was a t.v. repairman- his passion & career choice was music. My father was a Blues Recording Artist & he is listed in the “Who’s Who of Blues Recording Artists” by his professional of T.V.Slim.

My family moved to California following my father who had been on the road a lot pursuing his music career. I fell in love with performing at a young age(5 as I recall), being encouraged by my father to sing. Had he lived, I probably would have continued to sing. But on a sunny afternoon on the highway coming back to us from a recording session in Chicago where he was recording his 1st album, my father’s car hit an oil slick in the road & skidded off the highway over an embankment & crashed. He was 53 yrs old & died in the hospital. I was 13 … & devastated!

The performing bug stayed with me. I joined the church choir, the drama club, performed in talent shows, became a cheerleader in high school & attended modeling school. I won several “Best Actress” awards from talent search contests, & modeling school lead to a beauty pageant scholarship contest for college, which I won & was titled “Miss Teen Elegant.” I went on to Occidental College & continued to model & perform in theatre. One of the campaigns for Miller Beer included a mail-order poster of me for the U.S.Military. Modeling eventually led to t.v. commercials & an agent who launched my t.v. & film career.

My career has now spanned over 25 yrs. I have appeared in more than a 100 commercials & print advertisements, toured with the prestigious Negro Ensemble of New York directed by Douglas Turner Ward, starred & guest-starred in many popular t.v.episodics, including HBO’s “The Hitchhiker series” as well as “Behind The Candelabra” & “Entourage”, I am a part of Star Trek history- I played Sara Sisco in “Star Trek Deep Space Nine“, & I played Carla in the Emmy Winning “Mad Men” for the 1st four seasons. Feature films include “Devil in a Blue Dress”, “The Five Heartbeats”, “Exit to Eden”, “African Timber”,& “Beaches” are a few. One of my most memorable experiences is the time I spent in Ghana, West Africa when I was filming my 1st starring role in a feature film. My journey in Africa was loving, one I could never forget & continues to shape my existence.

At leisure I enjoy reading my magazines to keep in touch with all the latest health & fitness information. I’m a lot like my dad in that I, too, enjoy a good conversation about different philosophies of situations & circumstances in life. My mantra: “Life is not a matter of Milestones- but of Moments.”
